Hackney Gold – Redchurch Brewery, London, E2

In the absence of any football for me this weekend due to the hard frost on the ground, I have written a short blog on a beer I tried for the first time this weekend, Hackney Gold.

I discovered this bottled beer stocked in my local off licence “Mr Lawrence” who are trying to bring more local & London brewery’s to it’s customers. As well as Hackney Gold they also had Shoreditch Blonde & Hoxton Stout in bottles.

Produced in a 330ml bottle this stunning beer carries big flavour in it’s 5.5% abv & is satisfyingly refreshing

The blurb on the excellent basic label say it’s a “Hand crafted beer brewed in East London using the finest malted barley & hops from around the world”. This is very true to its word, this traditional beer certainly has a modern edge.

It’s a light unclear medium amber colour with a small frothy lacing with a diminishing, off-white head. Flavour is moderate to light that is sweet and bitter with an average to long duration, liquorice, chocolate and dark malt.
Aroma is moderate malty, toasted – caramel & a hint of leather. The body is medium, texture is oily, and carbonation is soft

A great little beer, if you get the chance try this brew. I will be sampling the rest of Redchurch’s brews in the next couple of weeks.

Till the next time.
